She completed an MA in 2010 and has worked freelance since then, but her previous experience in two of the armed services has given her the confidence to go back to areas of conflict, such as Gaza, Iraq and Afghanistan to work on the back stories - either looking at women soldiers or the lives and culture of civilian women affected by the chaos around them. She shows the intimacies of ‘normal’ life which go on behind the battle lines and does so with respect and compassion.
In order to earn a living, she also follows her own instincts and looks behind the scenes at Crufts and Chelsea Flower Show, for instance, finding fascinating details to document, alongside her work for charities and newspapers.
