External Competitions

Our ethos at the City of London & Cripplegate Photographic Society has never been that we are a photographic competitions-dominated society. Whilst we enjoy participating in internal competitions, there are only 4 competitions in each annual season and the committee feels that this number strikes the right balance in our calendar of events.

Our aim is to ensure that everyone, whatever their photographic ability, feels able to participate in our competitions and is able to get helpful feedback on their images to aid their progression.

Nonetheless, the Committee also recognises that the membership is talented and that some might wish to test themselves in a wider arena, whilst also representing their club. To this end, the Committee encourages participation in occasional external competitions, which will appear on this page.

APOY 2026: How to Enter

Any participation is entirely voluntary and at a member's own expense but, if you do decide to enter, please consider linking your entry with our Society.

If you do not already have one, you will need to create a ‘Photocrowd’ account, as they manage the APOY competition. Photocrowd accounts allow you to enter a wide range of photographic competitions  which can be a  way of testing out your photographic back catalogue in front of a wider audience. You can also try your hand at rating other competitors’ images, an invaluable resource for advancing your own photographic analytical skills.

You can enter up to 5 images in each of the 10 rounds. 1 free entry per round can be obtained via a unique code published in Amateur Photographer magazine during the period in which that round is open. Without the code, you’ll be able to enter a maximum of 4 images per round.

When you fill out your details to enter the competition, PLEASE make sure to include the City of London & Cripplegate Photographic Society as your associated photographic society, as there is a ‘ranking’ of participating clubs. Any success you have in the competition will increase our ranking and, potentially, success in the club category of the competition.
