Our third competition of the 2025 internal season took place on Tuesday 16th September, with many members making it to the Hall and a few on Zoom. This round had an 'Open' theme and the judge was the EAF's Gill Adams.
Unfortunately, traffic delayed the judge, so the print competition was truncated.
Print Competition
Sixteen members presented prints in the first half of the evening.
Judging is a subjective process but there was some confusion when prints described as 'delicately lit' or with 'good tonal range' were marked low. There were some suggestions on cropping but a clearer set of critiques would have been welcomed.
Three images were awarded 19's and 20's in the print category. The maximum 20 points were awarded to 'Snow Polo in St Moritz' by Inna Alden:
Inna Alden - 'Snow Polo in St Moritz' (20)

Dan Waller - 'Blood Swept Lands And Seas of Red' (19)

Sonny Doonga - 'Bank, London, England' (19)

DPI Competition
Twenty-two members entered the DPI competition in the second half of the evening.
The judging was again rushed, finishing 20 minutes early. And, again, there were some anomalies in the judging, with photos praised for tonal range, light, texture and sharpness but still scoring relatively low. Some cropping was suggested.
Three images were awarded 19's and 20's in the print category. The maximum 20 points were awarded to Dan Waller - 'From The Depths' - and Theresa Clemitson - 'Lone Tree, Yorkshire Dales'.
Dan Waller - 'From The Depths' (20)

Theresa Clemitson - 'Lone Tree, Yorkshire Dales' (20)

Matthew Taylor - 'Judgement day' (19)
