Thames Barrier Photo Opportunity
On Sunday 5th September the Thames Barrier will be having its annual test closure and the site will be open 3.00am-4.30pm. This should provide unusual photo opportunities and the "underspill" is expected at about 10.00am. More details from the Information Centre on 020 8305 4188 or see the website:

DLR is running a bus replacement service to Woolwich Arsenal so allow more time if travelling that way.

There! Now you know. I'm a bit of a Trekkie (not sure which bit!) but that also includes the journey thru' life with a camera at hand. Our 2010 exhibition in the Barbican Library comes down tomorrow and a week later we will be starting our 2010/11 programme with a competition evening. If you have visited our exhibit or the web-site, or both, and would like to join us on that evening to check us out before signing on for the full trek through the year, then please let Kerr Hodge, our hardworking Sec/Treasurer, know asap on 020 7588 8152 to be sure of your place. You may also e-mail him kerr.hodge@btinternet,com. The same applies to the workshop on 21 September, where we will be helping newer photographers get beyond leaving their cameras on the auto setting and hoping for the best. Both evenings are 6.45 for 7pm in the Barbican YMCA (East) in Errol Street.

I was delighted with the exhibition which I thought looked really good and had displayed a high overall standard from veterans through to work from younger and newer members. Well done everyone. A big thank you to the Barbican Library and staff for hosting it. And also to Terry Fallis who created the cabinet displays of cameras and darkroom equipment.

Unfortunately there is pressure on space at the Barbican Library and we are unlikely to exhibit there every year now - it will be on a biennale basis in future. However, 'Cripplegate' {as we are known in shorthand} has always been a keen exhibiting society so we will be looking for other sites to display our work, perhaps even as soon as later this year. If you are new to photography and work in the City then that may be another reason to think about joining us ... to explore for new exhibition opportunities, to seek out new images, to boldly photograph where no photographer has before ...

[You may have already guessed but a sense of humour as well as a camera comes in handy if you are going to join 'Cripplegate'!]
