The competition - a themed one this time, on Weather, is the last in our four competitions within our membership year, so look out for the totaliser! This might be the year we dust off some of the old silver trophies!
We welcomed Robert Good as judge and enjoyed his good humoured commentary and fair comments. It must be a good policy to start with a very low mark, so people feel grateful after that for anything higher! In fact, it was an evening of many marks of 8,9 and 10 which always helps the after-party in the pub go with a swing. We have started laying out the prints for perusal in the interval and that seems very helpful in encouraging more discussion and appreciation of all the different styles of photography, interpretations of the theme and methods of mounting. One outcome yet again, was how important it is to have appropriate titles. It depends on the judge to some extent, but in seeing how far the image fitted in to the theme and also to help give some context, the more explicit titles were helpful.
We had rain, snow, wind, sunshine, rainbows and storms from all over the world: here are a few from our long-distance members in South Carolina who had the advantage of real snow literally on their doorstep.
