| Inspirational talk by Red Saunders |

On 6th Dec 2011 politically radical photographer, Red Saunders, generously gave up his time explain the inner workings of his Hidden History project to us. This is not the history of Kings and Queens, but of the 'Hidden' neglected scenes of working class history in the long struggle for Parliamentary Democracy. Red showed a short film, shot behind the scenes, showing the preparations for his giant tableaux of the Peasants' Revolt (1381).
He then talked through and showed how eight of his billboard sized images were constructed. See Daily Mail article. These are photographs involving up to 102 Photoshop layers of a huge cast of characters, plus hired horses, and a composite of background elements. Red also explained how he'd spent a lot of time in art galleries working out the colour palette to use in his tableaux. This was some evening! It was one of the best we've ever been able to put on. A big thank you to Red Saunders for coming to talk to us. There is a really interesting 20 minute video here showing how and why Red Saunder's Peasants' Revolt tableaux was taken. |
